A flaw was found in pulp-container when it authenticates to an upstream registry. Basic and bearer credentials from one remote are reused for later downloads in the same worker. A user who can sync a container remote, and can point that remote at a server they control, receives the username, password, or bearer token stored for a different remote, and can reuse that credential at the upstream registry. Content stored in Pulp is not changed, and the service is not stopped.

A flaw was found in pulp-ansible's bearer-token refresh for collection remotes. The access token is kept in one module-level variable and reused for every token download in that worker. A user who can sync an Ansible remote that uses token refresh, and can point that remote at a server they control, receives an access token obtained for a different remote, and can reuse it at the service that issued it. Content stored in Pulp is not changed, and the service is not stopped.

A container privilege escalation flaw was found in certain Ansible Automation Platform images. This issue arises from the /etc/passwd file being created with group-writable permissions during the build process. In certain conditions, an attacker who can execute commands within an affected container, even as a non-root user, can leverage their membership in the root group to modify the /etc/passwd file. This vulnerability allows an attacker to add a new user with any arbitrary UID, including UID 0, gaining full root privileges within the container.

A flaw was found in ansible-core. When installing a collection with `ansible-galaxy collection install`, the archive extractor validates member paths using lexical path normalisation (os.path.abspath) instead of resolving symbolic links (os.path.realpath), and it performs no containment check on symlink-typed directory members before creating them. A crafted collection tarball can chain symlink directory entries so that a subsequent file member is written outside the intended destination directory. This allows an attacker who can get a victim to install a malicious collection to overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running ansible-galaxy, leading to code execution on the control node. This is a bypass of the fix for CVE-2020-10691.

A path traversal vulnerability was found in pulpcore. The relative_path_validator function only verifies that content paths do not begin with "/" but fails to block directory traversal sequences such as "../" anywhere in the path. An authenticated administrator can craft a relative_path containing embedded traversal sequences (e.g., "looking/normal/../../../../etc/shadow") that escapes the intended export directory during FilesystemExport operations. Because the file content is also user-controlled (uploaded artifact), this allows arbitrary file write to any location writable by the Pulp service user, potentially leading to service compromise or further system exploitation.

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2.5 for RHEL 8
A flaw was found in the containers/storage library. A crafted tar archive containing a malicious whiteout header (e.g. victim/.wh.) can cause the extraction destination directory to be replaced with an arbitrary file when processed by storage/pkg/archive.UnpackLayer, ApplyLayer, or ApplyUncompressedLayer.

A flaw was found in the buildah/copier Go package. When used outside of Buildah by a non-root caller, a crafted tar archive containing malicious symlinks can escape the target extraction directory and create files outside the intended destination. Buildah itself uses chroot hardening and is not affected.

The 'podman quadlet install --replace' command opens the existing destination file with O_CREATE|O_WRONLY but omits O_TRUNC. When the initial reflink copy attempt fails (common on non-reflink-capable filesystems including many RHEL default XFS configurations), the fallback in ReflinkOrCopy uses io.Copy which performs a non-truncating write. If the original Quadlet is larger than the new Quadlet, the file is not truncated and content from the original is preserved. The command completes with no warning. There is no risk of information leakage as the user already had access to the Quadlet in order to replace it, and in most cases, this would only lead to invalid Quadlet files. However, security-related options from the end of the old Quadlet could be included in the new Quadlet, and if the truncation resulted in a valid Quadlet file, this could result in undesirable behavior. For example, running podman quadlet install --replace to remove a single line from the end of a Quadlet - including security-sensitive content, like AddCapability - will fail, and the option will continue to be used. Further, with Volume Quadlets, this can include additional mounts which can cause content to be unintentionally exposed into containers. If, later, the image is updated then compromised content might be leaked to an attacker. The vulnerable code paths are in pkg/domain/infra/abi/quadlet.go (lines 338-360, O_CREATE|O_WRONLY without O_TRUNC) and vendor/go.podman.io/storage/pkg/fileutils/reflink_
